Last night Oslo Kino arranged an outdoor cinema night at St.Hanshuagen in Oslo, Norway. I had the most wonderful evening watching Charlie Chaplin’s ‘The Gold Rush‘ amongst friends, the whole park was jammed packed. Due to Oslo’s shifty weather, its not very easy arranging these nights, so sadly this was the only outdoor cinema night this year.

I must say that I really miss Melbourne’s Moonlight cinema, and also the the deckchairs at the Rooftop cinema. There’s just something special about watching a film outdoors with lots of people huddled together.

When you’re sitting inside a movie theater you feel like you have to stay silent, and make as little noise as possible. Anything you wish to comment, you make sure to only whisper, but when outside, its a completely different atmostphere. You hear a lot of ‘awww’s, and ‘ooooh’ s and ‘watch out!’s. In action scenes you can see everybody leaning to one side or reacting to whatevers going on on the screen.
I guess you just dont notice all those little details about people when everybody’s plonked in an uncomfortable cinema seat. I really wish there were more outdoor cinema nights throughout the year, too bad winter is just around the corner!

When I first became aware of urban artists a few years ago, I must say I was pretty impressed and intrigued by this art-treasure-hunt phenomenon. These days I’m growing a bit tired of all the Banksy copycats and am wondering when someone’s going to start something a bit different. Anyhow, stencils still fascinate me, especially when the artist finds an interesting way to incorporate the art into its surrounding.
I came accross two Norwegian stencil artists by the name of Dolk and Pøbel, when reading an article by NRK. I like how they’ve decided to go way up North in Norway, in places like Lofoten, and paint their pieces on huge walls of buildings, in the middle of nowhere. It kind of reminds you that there is life up North as well…

A whole month with out a post. Shame on us. I guess we’re busy working on stuff that’ll hopefully produce many posts in the future. So today, for the sake of some kind of continuity, I write.
But hey, for a while now I’ve wanted to write something about the people taking pictures in parties in and around DF (Mexico City). In the tradition of pages like last nights party and the cobra snake in the States, Mexico’s DOMESTIC FINE ARTS stands tall and delivers a fair and beautiful picture of what is going on in Mexico City at the moment. Ok, so its just a Blogspot blog with pics on it, but the pics are, to my opinion, very cool. CHECK IT OUT
There are others, but at the moment and in my opinion, this one takes the cake. The debauchery !!!!

I’ve come across some cool badges that I really want:

You can get them at Pricke which claims to have “the largest collection of unique button badges”. It’s definitely the place to go if you like badges. What I like about the site is that there are tons of different badge makers who in addition are really talented artists. The first one is called ‘Standby’ and was made by Jaline Sritharan.
I checked out Robert Hardgrave’s work (aka Farmer Bob) who designed that ‘fresh tacos’ badge, and I’m pretty amazed, both by his artwork and by his ‘about’ page. I love his style because you can just sit there and gaze at his artworks and spot new things all the time. His paintings are so rich in colours and patterns it really makes you wonder what goes on inside the artist’s head. I especially like this one named Chronical:

After having driven past the construction site to and from work every day, I decided to finally check out Oslo’s new landmark : The Norwegian Opera and Ballet. I’m not really one for opera, nor ballet, but I’m always interested in some new architecture.
The opera house is situated in Bjørvika and was designed by the Norwegian architectural firm Snøhetta (based in both Oslo and New York). The building is made of white marble and one thing that I find quite enjoyable is that you can actually walk on the roof. The roof is a slanted plane which rises straight out of the fjord. So its a good idea to watch your kids because they could fall and roll straight into the water!
I did come to notice that its not the safest place you can go for a stroll. Just in the five minutes I stopped to take some photos, two adults took a tumble. What you don’t notice right away is that on the roof there are several wide steps that range from being a few milimeters to about ten centimeters high. These sneak up on you right when you’re enjoying the magnificent view of the fjord, and before you know it, you’re grazing your face on the rough marble. They have put little reflective marks here and there, but if its a sunny day you are as blinded by the white marble as you would be by the snow on a mountain. If you’re planning on going for a visit, remember to bring your sunnies!
